What Would it Take? A Call to Action Acknowledges that there is a Problem, ...but who to Call?!

I often sit and ponder what kind of an action would benefit the Unpeople. You know, those people who are left without energy or resource to respond in kind to the wholesale and centuries old oppression of their being. And believe me, I think of it often and with passion.

I consider how few resources we have. I also consider how little others join us in our few responses to this life-sucking barrage of attacks against the weakest. Often enough there are cute little 'gatherings' of the regular folk, but when they take up the banner of the unpeople with something like, say, a Walk for Poverty, their numbers decidedly slide. Curious isn't it?

So, What kind of an action can this disreputable, assailed, foul-mouthed, stinking band of rebels do?

Well, first let's take a look at what we want:

  • safe shelter
  • nutritious and reoccurring meals
  • some health care, not a lot, just when we don't feel well
  • some work would be nice (just not the slave labor that keeps us running for services)
  • Or, an opportunity to gather some skills to form a 'small business' at what we do best
  • free passage (the kind where we are not the target or blame bag for being in the wrong place)
  • is asking for some 'respect' to much?
  • oh, and an attorney that didn't graduate at the bottom of their class and now works for the public defenders office

That oughta give us a place to start.

Now, how do we gather and put it out there? Are there ways in which to unite the unpeople in one place? Usually the answer is no, we're spread out like a pimp on a kingsized. I suppose we could go on over to the local 'mission'. But, there is such angst and anger there i probably couldn't get the 'requiring politeness' to join me. They do serve a meal or two, as well as the local 'christian' kitchens, but they clean and lock their doors so quickly you can hardly get them to open it to free your coat much less hear a word about needs.

Hiring is a vast oasis of presentation and horn tooting. I met a man once who had the kind of experience to make a small businessman weep for want of such skill and talent, but he couldn't get in the door for the lack of a good hygiene session, cycles are a bitch don'cha know. Should he grab a piece of his 'house', put a few choice words on it, and march with Occupy to their local GA? talk about useless. Maybe a parade singing Aretha's 'R E S P E C T'? I'd be more then happy to hum a few bars.

Would it be biting the hand that 'feeds' us to hold a rally at the local public defenders office with chants about higher qualifications from those who protect the most vulnerable from violations? That's what i've heard. We need to be more grateful for what we do get.

Well, I think I've made my point. But if you have any serious contributions in the way of protest that works for the unpeople.. feel free to post them below.. we're all ears.
